Phoneme Segmentation Activities

Whether you are doing whole group, small group, or one on one instruction, it’s so important to make sure that we are teaching phonemic awareness. We all know that strong phonemic awareness skills are important to successful reading. We also know that it is important to teach skills in ways that are tried and true — and based on good research. But sometimes typical instruction can be boring. And no one wants to teach a boring lesson in kindergarten!

When I teach using “Teach me Phoneme Segmentation” my students are practically BEGGING me to play every day because the games are so fun and interactive. I particularly love Simon Says Segmentation. Not only are the students able to get up and move, I am able to quickly assess who understands the concepts and who needs more support.

Another great reason to use this unit is the variety of different activities that can be used to match a theme throughout the year. I don’t have to reinvent the wheel as the seasons change, just switch things up with a new theme and the kids stay engaged.

Seriously, you and your students will LOVE the activities in this packet. But don’t just take my word for it, try it yourself!

Happy teaching!

“Great purchase! I printed everything off and prepped all the games. Put everything in its own sheet protector and placed in a binder. Now I just pull out a game and it is ready to go. What are the three greatest things about Kindergarten Kiosk purchases.... 1) educationally top notch (Kathy knows her stuff and knows how to effectively teach the concepts while the kids are having a great time.) 2) LOVE that the games...because that what they all are...are scripted! They can be handed to a parent volunteer or sub and away they go! 3) time tested (research based :) ) These are the very same games that Kathy has used for years, they weren't just made up and published quickly to make a few extra dollars. They are TIMELESS! I've loved EVERY purchased from Kindergarten Kiosk and look forward to many years ahead of using these resources.”
