Welcome Beautiful Spring Birds
Today I saw a Robin making a nest. It brought a smile to my face, and made me think of the beautiful book Bird Watch by Oana Befort. This is a great book to jumpstart your Spring-Themed teaching.
I start by reading the book to my students. Then, in the following days, I emphasize different aspects of the book throughout the reading such as: How many birds are on this page? What colors of birds do you see? What do you notice about bird habitats? How many different types of birds are on the page? etc.
Extend the Learning!
After we have explored the story, I challenge my students to make a Spring Tree!
Spring Tree Habitat Art
Pass each student a blank piece of paper cut to the size you wish. This can be a large project or a 8 ½ X 11 that will tuck nicely in a student portfolio.
Display the Instruction poster:
Provide students a variety of colored construction paper, tissue paper, pencils, crayons, pastels, colored pencils, watercolors, etc.
Instructions: You may tear or cut the paper to create a tree filled with birds following the direction poster. (Review instructions). You can do this activity independently with kindergarten children, preschool children may need to be guided throughout the instruction steps.
